Projects and Committees
GISMO has a number of activities where members can become involved. Please review the following descriptions. If you can help out, feel free to contact the people listed under each program.
Membership Database
Mark Ryvkin (mryvkin@hotmail.com) maintains our computerized database from membership forms. These forms, as well as corrections made to circulated attendance sheets, are the basis for mailing list updates. Membership database information is used only for internal GISMO purposes; contact lists are distributed to members at meetings. Labels or electronic downloads of contact information are available to regular contributing members by special request.
Meetings
Scheduled Meetings take place at the Fund for the City of New York, 121 Sixth Avenue from 12-2:30pm. Space and lunches are provided by the Fund.
Programs
Programs are scheduled for all GISMO meetings and field trips are separately scheduled if they involve on-site activity. Make program and field trip suggestions at meetings or to Sandra Russell (212-361-7098).
Applications Fair
GISMO held its first Applications Fair in 1994, in which members demonstrated PC-GIS applications on a one-on-one basis. Sandra Russell (212-361-7098) coordinates this event.
Virtual GISMO
Members interested in Internet GIS, Internet mapping applications and development of the GISMO webpage can interact online. Noreen Whysel (212-769-0931) manages the content and design of our webpage. The GISMO website is maintained as part of the Hunter College Geography Department web site.
GISMO Archive
The New York Public Library Map Division (5th Avenue and 42nd Street) maintains a GISMO archive. Archived GISMO newsletters (through July 99) and other materials are accessible there. Alice Hudson (212-930-0588) is the contact. Virtual GISMO maintains meeting minutes and program notes beginning with the September 1999 meeting, as well as an archive of the GISMO listserv and other materials. Please contact Noreen Whysel at nwhysel@hotmail.com for details.
