Degree Audit: Information and Instructions
Graduating this semester?
Geography Majors (regular geography major or Social Studies option): you need to file for graduation within the first few weeks of this semester. This involves going to OASIS, picking up a graduation audit packet appropriate to your catalog (students who entered before 2001 and are under the Distribution Requirement have one form and those who entered after 2001 and are under the GER have another), completing the audit form (both sides), and bringing it to Professor Heatwole, Undergraduate Geography Advisor, for review and signature during advising hours.
QUEST and Secondary Education Collateral Majors must see Professor Heatwole, Undergraduate Geography Advisor, during advising hours before submitting the form to the School of Education. Major courses are listed on the left side of the form and education courses on the right as a second major. The School of Ed. will not sign the form until the major advisor has signed it. When you submit the completed form to them, they will review it for certification and submit it to the Graduation Audit Office for you.
Environmental Studies Majors must see Professor Salmun during advising hours for a graduation audit.
Do not delay filing for graduation. The earlier you file, the faster any irregularities can be identified and resolved.
Graduate Students
Below are the key steps for graduation. For details, see the attached Hunter College instructions for filing for graduation as well as the registrar's website.
You must be registered in the semester that you are graduating (a course, independent research, or a thesis research credit if you do a thesis option) or maintain matriculation (see http://registrar.hunter.cuny.edu/forms/mandmform.htm and registrar's and bursar's website).
The following information must be submitted to OASIS in order for you to become a candidate for graduation. All forms are available from OASIS or registrar's website http://registrar.hunter.cuny.edu/subpages/forms.shtml.
Please note that in order to be processed for graduation you must fulfill all the requirements (e.g., get your thesis approved or pass the exam and have your research paper approved) much prior to the end of the semester.
1. File Graduate Degree Audit Application Form (DAAF).
During the first four weeks of the semester you have to file DAAF. This form lists all your required and other courses. It certifies that you met your coursework requirments. Thesis option students need 31 credits minimum (one credit must be a thesis research credit); the exam option students need 36 credits. The two forms (thesis and exam options) are available in OASIS and on-line (registrar's website). Please fill out the ENTIRE form (both sides, if applicable) and submit to graduate director (Prof. Pavlovskaya) along with a copy of your current transcript for review and signature.
The following forms must be filed along with your DAAF.
2. If you were in the program more than 4 years, you need to fill out and sign with the advisor the Graduate Time Extension Form. This form also certifies that your dated courses are still acceptable.
3. Thesis option: Thesis Approval Form
Fill out and sign this form with Graduate director after you complete and file your thesis (package and instructions available from Martha Taylee in Geography Office)
4. Exam option: Confirmation that you passed your Comprehensive Exam and your paper was accepted. This letter is prepared and signed by the Graduate Director.
As soon as you met these requirements, ask your main advisor to email the following information to Graduate Advisor:
(1) Date when the comprehensive exam was taken and when it was approved. Indicate the fields covered by the exam.
(2) Title of the research paper, when it was submitted and when it was approved.NOTE: Inform the Graduate Advisor (Professor Albrecht - jochen@hunter.cuny.edu) and the Department Secretary (Martha Taylee - mtaylee@hunter.cuny.edu) via email as soon as you have set
1. The thesis approval date, including the thesis title.
2. the exam date and the date when the paper will be submitted. Include exam fields (3 areas of expertise) and paper topic.
