Appalachian Trail on Bellvale Mountain

Saturday September 19th
Appalachian Trail on Bellvale Mountain
Greenwood Lake, NY

Moderate to Strenuous 7 Mile Hike (approx 6 hours) on trails maintained by the New York – New Jersey Trail Conference. This hike traverses a spectacular six-mile section of the Appalachian Trail. The first two miles are relatively level, but the last four miles involve many short but steep climbs and descents, as the trail traverses a series of rock outcrops.

We will meet at Hunter College, 69th Street entrance of the North Building at 7:30AM. We will leave Hunter at 8:00AM sharp!

We will begin the hike at about 10:00AM and be back to our cars by about 4:00PM. We should be back to Hunter College by about 6:00PM

The trail head is near the intersection of Route 210 and Continental Road. Park along Continental Road and wait for the hike leaders.

It’s about a 1 ½ hour drive from Hunter College. We will leave one or more cars at the destination so we can drive back to the trail head where we started the hike and left the remaining cars. It’s about a 6-hour hike so bring food and drink.

All participants must complete and submit an Emergency Contact Form and a Legal Waiver no later than Wednesday September 16th.  These forms are available on the GeoClub web site.

All members of the Hunter College community (students, faculty, staff, family and friends) may attend the hike but all must submit an Emergency Contact Form and a Legal Waiver. There are a limited number of cars going that can take passengers. If you have a vehicle and can take passengers, please let us know.

There is a $5.00 fee to pay for gas and tolls. If you have a car and take passengers, you will be reimbursed for gas and tolls.
